Disappearing Act

Where did the last few weeks go?
Snowed in at a mountain pass, towns with no electricity, towns with no internet, towns with no veggies.
4×4 only roads, blankets ontop of sleeping bags, nights of nearby gunfire, showers by candle light.
Riding on the back of too many trucks, wearing local getup and Madina Guest House Gilgit.
Multiple posts lined up and I’ll drip feed them when I can.

So tonight we are locked in the Hostel, the local elections have just been held and not everyone agrees with the winners.
Afternoon streets were of full of burning tyres and town went into lockdown. Shops closed up, and curfew in force.
Mosque evening ‘Call to Prayer screeches across town speakers and the whole scene is quite eery.
Hostel is located in a mixed Suni/Shiite area so its relatively safe, but we can here a mixture of gunfire from all around. Some celebratorty, and some not so celebratory.
Traveling in Pakistan is fine.

It’s been a while since you posted and for some reason I forgot you were in Pakistan, and thought you were in China..so I’m reading this whole post thinking about elections in China, and astonished by the mosques…then I read “Suni/Shiite area” and knew it was not China. haha

Last time I was in Jamaica for family stuff (2007), it was during elections and my aunt told us not to wear green or orange, because then we would be representing one group or another. Man I am killin it with run-on sentences today.
